That officer and that lady came to a turning point that would put any man to hard test to endure.

This story has two ends.

A reader has to decide the course to be followed by a man. One is unalloyed, and he has values and integrity of a higher order.

IT WAS AMID A CALM, warm, and windless night in such a paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean when a woman unknowingly was waiting for a man. When he showed up, something happened.

The mature Security Officer carries his uniform elegantly, but it was to him such long and lonely night guarding a large property for a mature Security Officer. Despite the absence of people nearby the property, the officer responsibly patrolled every area of it attentive to unwanted activities to prevent a breach of security. At the end of his night, the officer had to appear in court as a witness early in the morning hours. He left the Court House close to mid-day, but he could not go home for a well-deserved rest.

That day, an important client of the Security Services company he works for requested increase in security. A superior officer requested him to work from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The officer explained that working through the night and a court appearance makes him feel that he needs to rest, but the superior officer insisted. Although he was not so happy, the man in need of a well-deserved rest accepted to work the extra eight hours.

The day at work turned out to be just as the officer anticipated, and that was a large number of people ~most of whom are recalcitrant and unruly folks~ would come to the store. In silence and to himself, the officer often asked himself "What kind of people raised them ?" It was obvious to him that parents did not have even the intent to raise and to educate them to become fine men and women. It was why he was rightfully expecting ugly, disturbing, and nasty situations to occur.

Eventually, the clock reached ten o'clock; and the exhausted man was free to go home after a straight 24 hours of work, court appearance, and enforcing rules and regulations with unmanageable and uncooperative people ~just to say it mildly~ he would rather have not come to meet with. His superior officer stopped him walking out of the client's property to thank him very much for accepting the task even when he was so tired. To show his appreciation, the superior officer said that the company wants him to take the following day off; and to pay for it.

With a small smile on his face ~and a profound sense of satisfaction~ the mature officer shook hands with his superior like two men do it; and then, he walked away. He feels exhausted, his stamina all used up, hungry, thirsty, and in need of rest. In the solitude of the late evening hours, he literally drags himself to a nearby bus stop. He rightfully wants to sit on a bench and give his aching legs a rest, and a set of wheels to take him home. That night, he would not care how he carries his uniform.

Amid a calm, warm, and windless night in a paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean that a woman at a bus stop was waiting. She did not know, however, that she was waiting for something other than a bus. In the bareness of the night, and at a distance, she detects the scene of a man in uniform. After he makes it to her bench, the officer offers his salutation; but appears discontent and borderline irritable. The officer attempts to justify his state of mind revealing to the only passenger at the bus stop why he may appear unfriendly.

They are both alone, no one is on sight, and in an almost perfectly quite environment she gracefully started a placid and serene conversation likely to soothe a man in need of something kind. The officer perceived the intention she had, and he begins to suspect that the strange woman may be a rare specimen. To correspond to her kind act, the officer forces himself to relax. He succeeded when he shows genuine interest listening to her words, and to the kindhearted attitude that transpired behind them.

The short bus ride took them to an intersection where both got off at. She went her way across the street after waiting for a pedestrian light to turn green; and then, one more street crossing to a short walk to a hotel with front stairs leading up to its lobby.

The officer, however, remained at the intersection watching her until she walked up the hotel stairs, and vanished in the lobby. His sharp eye managed to observe something a split of a second before she faded away in the hotel's lobby. It was such ephemeral glance of hers looking in his direction. Probably, the lady felt the officer's eyes following her every move walking toward the hotel; and if that was the case, she needed that fugacious glance to answer her burning question: "Is he still there ?"

The officer had an enigma of his own, and he rushed across the street. He did not wait for the pedestrian light to turn green, however. He felt an urge to walk up those stairs to look inside the hotel's lobby and see if that unexplored and rare lady who offered him soothing words and such a kindhearted moment was still visible in the glittering lobby.

He saw the lady when she turned away from the front desk, and looked down at a few pieces of mail in her hands. The officer remained for a moment contemplating her, and he perceived that she might be one of those few and far between women that show up in a man's life. His moment ended when the lady detected his presence; and that was when ~like a thunder~ she felt a spike of excitement running through her entire self.

Minutes ago, the lady's evanescent but prudent side-glance confirmed what she felt: the officer did not go on his way after leaving the bus. However, his presence in that lobby was a totally different matter. He was now in her territory, speechless, and anchored to the entry area contemplating her. Such intriguing and provocative action kept the lady breathless, and her excitement unfaltering.

She now has more burning questions: "Why is he there ?", "What does he want ?", "What am I supposed to do ?"

The officer was immutable and silent. He used his presence to send a message without words to a lady still at the spike of her excitement. He was hoping for her to interpret the insinuated content of his wordless message. On her side, the lady's only excuse to escape his eyes was to shuffle her mail again and again without even reading who was the sender. She did so until she finally read between the lines deciphering his wordless message. The lady needed time to figure what is it that she wanted: In or Out.

During that interval of time, they both were holding their breaths in suspense. Although she was a bundle of nerves, the lady finally stopped the repetitive shuffling of letters. She then appeared to be calm when she decisively walked toward the officer feeling like walking on air as she glued her eyes on his.

They were not yet face to face when their hearts were pounding. It was the beginning of an exhilarating and invigorating moment that started when they looked at each other in their eyes in the way an unalloyed man and a real woman do it: not playing games. Several seconds that seemed interminable went by contemplating each other. If certain moments have magic, that was it. Such enchanting and glowing state kept them both breathless like no other prior instance in their lives. It lasted until she breathed in, and whispered one question to the officer: "Are you still hungry ?", "...and very thirsty as well" he whispered back.

She took some time before rolling her dice again, and when she did so, she said to the officer... "I have food in my room. I could prepare you a meal. Would you like to come up... to my room ?" The officer did not respond right away. Instead, he chose that moment to perceive up-close the qualities of such a classy woman mirrored in her titillating eyes. His silence, however, brought cliff-hanging suspense to a lady in desperate need for an answer. He rolled his dice when he accepted her noble intent to address his appetite after a long and exhausting day.

Motivated and excited, the lady asked the officer to give her five minutes before going up to her room. He said that he will give her ten minutes. She was afraid that he may be leaving, and she asked him if he was leaving her. The officer brought relieve saying that he will only go out to bring in something to drink, and that he promises to knock on her door in ten to twelve minutes time.

The officer was back as promised, he was invited in, and the dead-quite hotel's fifth floor heard the sound of a door closing; and sealing their destiny.

What may happen between this man who feels in the prime of his life and a full-fledged woman happened that calm, warm, and windless night in a paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

...and this is what may happen
